A group of runners were injured - two seriously - after they were hit by a car that lost control and mounted a grass verge.

The group were hit by the Jeep Wrangler as they ran along Burwaldsley Road in the village of Tattenhall, Cheshire, at about 20:10 GMT on Tuesday

The driver, a 76-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Cheshire Police said: "Several people were injured, with hospital treatment required for a number of them. At least two people have been seriously injured."

Insp Andy Dennison appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He added: "The same goes for anyone who was driving in the area or Burwardsley Road and saw the runners or the Jeep."
