Plans have been announced to convert a former supermarket in Ripley into a community banking service.

The proposals have been lodged with Amber Valley Borough Council to make the old Farmfoods site in Oxford Street into a new business, which would also have a cash machine.

Applicant Cash Access UK said the scheme would involve new signage and a new shopfront.

Ripley has been without a bank since HSBC closed its branch on 10 April, and a decision on the application is expected to be made on 7 January.

Last year a banking hub opened in nearby Belper after the town was left without any banks for more than a year.
