Traffic has been diverted after three horses died in two crashes on the A3

Three horses have died in two separate crashes on the A3 in Surrey.

Emergency services were called to the A3 Northbound Ripley Bypass following reports of two loose horses involved in a crash with a lorry at about 01:40 GMT on Thursday.

A separate call came shortly after regarding a crash involving a car and horse, Surrey Police said.

All three horses were found dead upon arrival, the force added.

The northbound A3 remains closed due to the ongoing clean-up operation, National Highways said.

No time has been given for the reopening, it added.
