Five dogs were seized following reports of suspected hare coursing

Five dogs and a vehicle suspected of being used for hare coursing have been seized by police.

Cambridgeshire Police said neighbourhood and rural crime team officers tracked a black Mitsubishi Shogun, which was believed to be involved, in south Cambridgeshire on Wednesday.

Police said the vehicle failed to stop and a stinger was used, deflating three tyres, with the vehicle coming to a stop in Fox Road in Bourn, near Cambridge, at about 13:30 GMT.

The force said six men fled from the vehicle, with five detained shortly afterwards.

They were reported for various offences, including making off without paying, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving, the force said.

Suspects could be sent a court summons at a later date.

Sgt Tom Nuttall, from the rural crime team, said: "Hare coursing is an illegal activity that causes significant suffering to wildlife and harms our rural communities. It will not be tolerated here in Cambridgeshire."
