Police received reports of the death of a man on Blaydon Grove in Grimsby

A fourth person has died and several more people have become ill in a spate of suspected drug overdoses in Grimsby, police have said.

Humberside Police received reports of the death of a man on Blaydon Grove in Grimsby at about 19:00 GMT on Friday.

Over the weekend, the force said it received a further eight reports of people becoming unwell and they were suspected to have overdosed on the same type of drug.

Nine people have been charged with drug offences and a further three people have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. The force previously said it was considering the possibility that a contaminated batch of drugs may be in circulation.

On Sunday, three men were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs during the search of a property on Peaksfield Avenue in Grimsby.

About £2,000 cash, mobile devices, a suspected firearm and an estimated £1,000 worth of suspected cannabis were found at the property.

The three men, aged 32, 33 and 38, remain in custody, police said.

The arrests come after seven men, aged from 20 to 33, and two women, aged 22 and 32, were charged with drug offences.

The force said it was also investigating a death in January that may be linked to the suspected overdoses.

In total, police said four people had died and "multiple people" had become ill from suspected drug overdoses in the area since 24 January.

The force said it was continuing to investigate how the drugs came to be in circulation and was working to determine whether the reports were connected.
