Rapist who choked victim jailed for 10 years
West Mercia PoliceA rapist who choked his victim has been jailed for 10 years.
Mark Hirons, 38, had been found guilty at an earlier hearing of rape, intentional strangulation and assault over the attack on a woman in Telford.
During sentencing at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Hirons, of Holyhead Road, Telford, was made subject of a restraining order and in addition to his prison term, must serve an extended five-year period on licence.
He was put on the sex offenders register for life and must pay a £187 victim surcharge.
Hirons, who pleaded not guilty to the offences on 30 June 2025, was convicted on 2 December.
Officers from West Mercia Police were made aware of the offences in May 2025, when the victim reported the incident.
Det Con Darren Wincott said: "I am very grateful for the sentence the judge has handed to Hirons, who is clearly a very dangerous individual who preys on women.
"I would like to commend the victim in this, who has been incredibly brave throughout this investigation.
"I hope the sentence can offer her some form of closure and will enable her to move forward with her life."
