A beach has been partially cordoned off after an unexploded bomb was found on the Sussex shoreline.

Sussex Police said it had shut off parts of Medmerry Beach in Selsey, near Chichester, after the suspected munition was found on Thursday morning.

A spokesperson for the force said it was "assessing items believed to be smoke signals and small munition fragments".

Two controlled explosions were carried out and the incident has now been stood down, added Selsey Coastguard.
