Plans to double pothole repair cash to £240m
West Midlands Combined AuthoritySix councils across the West Midlands could be given a share of £240m to repair roads and potholes in their areas over five years.
Mayor Richard Parker has announced plans for the funds - double what was previously offered - to cover road maintenance from April 2027.
If given the green light, the grant would be divided between Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton's local authorities.
The West Midlands Combined Authority Board will be asked to approve the plan on 13 February.
Last year the mayor secured an extra £20m from the Department for Transport to top up council road repair budgets for 2025-27.
The cash for the five years from 2027 onwards comes from a transport funding pot given to the region by the government.
West Midlands Combined AuthorityThere are also plans to give councils extra money for smaller projects, such as crossings, pathways and junction upgrades, with a focus on improving road safety and encouraging more people to walk, wheel and cycle.
Parker said: "People across the West Midlands tell me that the lack of investment in our roads is one of their top frustrations – and I share that frustration.
"We're making road repairs a top priority by doubling our investment, providing our councils with the funding they need to ensure smoother, safer journeys for everyone."
