Crews tackle fire at derelict Newquay building
Ben BrownCrews have tackled a fire at a derelict building in Newquay.
People were asked to keep windows and doors closed because of a "large smoke plume", Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) said.
The fire, in a building between the former Narrowcliff Hotel and the former Hotel Bristol near Tolcarne beach, was reported at about 16:15 BST on Tuesday.
CFRS said multiple firefighters had battled the flames and a crew would remain at the scene to damp down hot spots. A spokesperson added an investigation into the incident's cause would begin on Wednesday.
Richard BarberNarrowcliff was closed between Ulalia Road and Hilgrove Road roundabout.
Earlier in the afternoon, staff at the nearby Narrowcliff doctors' surgery asked all non-urgent patients to leave due to the fire.
The fire service said the incident was scaled back from 20:45.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the road closure has since been lifted.
