New Armed Forces Hubs are opening as part of the county-wide expansion of support services

Veterans Regroup has completed the expansion of its multi-agency armed forces hubs to eight locations across Cornwall.

The three new hubs in Launceston, Truro and Penryn have been added to existing sites in Penzance, Newquay, Redruth, Helston and Liskeard to meet growing demand.

Organisers said the expansion aimed to bring joined-up services closer to communities and reduce barriers to support for the armed forces population.

The hubs provided a single space where people could access multiple organisations, helping to cut waiting times and simplify the process of getting help.

An estimated 39,000 veterans live in Cornwall, taking their families into account it means the armed forces community makes up about 10% of the local population.

Organisers said many people in the community faced challenges including mental health concerns, debt, housing issues, unemployment and social isolation.

Projects director Jane Jiwa said the expansion marked a "significant milestone" and highlighted the importance of organisations working together to shape local support.

Support services included help with pensions, mental health, housing, benefits, debt, employment, healthcare and education.

Organisations involved ranged from MOD Veterans UK and the NHS to Cornwall Council, Help for Heroes, SSAFA and the Department for Work and Pensions.

The project also plans to run employer fairs across Cornwall and has invited businesses to express interest in supporting members of the armed forces community.

Local MPs and senior armed forces figures visited the hubs, signalling political and community backing for the initiative.
