'Grotto for everybody' opened inside school hall
BBCA "grotto for everybody" has been created at a school in Nottinghamshire to welcome families with additional needs.
Charity We Caan has set up the festive feature inside the hall and music room at St Giles School in Retford, to give children and adults who might struggle visiting a traditional grotto the opportunity to experience "the magic of Christmas".
As well as the "safe and inclusive" grotto manned by Santa and his elves, the charity has created a sensory experience including a candy room and a sleigh ride which can accommodate wheelchair users.
Retford charity co-founder Kelly Robinson said: "No child should miss out, every child should see Santa."
The experience is organised into time slots to cater for children and adults who may struggle with long queues, or who may need extra time inside the experience, and is staffed by elves "who just get it", said Mrs Robinson.
About 40 families were able to visit over the opening weekend.
She added: "I'm really proud of what we've achieved here. It's one of these places that's not just for kids - when people come round it's a little bit of something for everyone."

Co-founder Rachael Tomlinson said: "They can touch things here, they can smell, see things, carry things - nothing is off-limits."
We Caan thanked St Giles for giving them the space to set up the grotto.
Head teacher Matt Rooney said: "We Caan have really brought the magic of Christmas to St Giles and the wider community.
"I've met people whose children have never met Santa before. We're so lucky to have them."
