A new £32m "super tip" is set to open in February, with the local council leader describing it as the "biggest in Europe".

The facility, on Middlemore Lane in Aldridge, will open on Monday 2 February, Walsall Council has confirmed.

Construction on the household waste recycling centre and waste transfer station was completed in 2025, but the council was awaiting a permit from the Environment Agency before opening to the public.

The existing tip on Merchants Way, about half a mile from the new one, will cease operation on 1 February.

Fryers Road tip in Bloxwich will remain open to residents ahead of planned redevelopment, details of which have yet to be provided by the authority.

The new tip has 38 different skips across 19 bays to recycle a wide range or materials.

A dedicated reuse shop is also operating on-site, giving new life to items that might otherwise have been thrown away.

Staff will be able to upcycle and repair items at the workshop, to prepare furniture and household goods into safe and useable condition to be sold at a low cost to residents.

The new super tip will be open seven days a week. On Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday it will open 09:00–17:00 GMT, on Tuesday between 10:00-18:00 and on Thursday from 09:00-16:00.

For the first two weeks of opening, the reuse shop will open between 10:00 and 14:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, before aligning with the tip's opening hours.

Proof of residence is required to make use of the site, in the form of a driving licence, recent council tax letter or utility bill.

Councillor Suky Samra, portfolio holder for street scene, said: "This project is a huge development for Walsall.

"What has been delivered here is the definition of 'state-of-the-art'.

"The site will prove vital in ensuring we can continue to accommodate the waste demands we face in the borough.

"Our current facilities have served us well, but now is time for a new era, where we recycle and reuse more of our waste."
