Man arrested on suspicion of murdering woman
Eddie MitchellA man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman after she was found dead at a property in West Sussex, police say.
Officers responded to a report of concern for the welfare of a woman in Durrington Lane in Worthing at about 19:50 BST on Thursday and a 65-year-old was found dead at the scene, Sussex Police said.
A 37-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of murder and assaulting a police officer and remains in custody, a force spokesperson said.
Det Insp Amanda Zinyama said: "We are in the early stages of a fast-moving investigation, and officers are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances."
The victim and suspect were known to each other, police said.
Officers say they believe there is no wider threat to the community and they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
However, there will be an increased police presence in the area while inquiries are ongoing.
