A collision between a double-decker bus and a car has led to a road being closed.

Drivers have been told to avoid the A46 in Cheltenham following the crash, which happened at about 13:30 GMT.

Emergency services are at the scene, near the junction for Church Lane, and Gloucestershire Police have said the road is likely to be closed for several hours.

Anybody who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage has been asked to contact police.

Photographs from the scene show the bus is operated by Stagecoach, which the BBC has approached for comment.

Helen Gadd, who lives near the site of the crash, said numerous fire engines, ambulances and police cars are in attendance.

She told BBC Radio Gloucestershire she heard a bang when the crash happened and saw flashing lights from emergency services shortly after.

"There's a Mini across the road that's been completely bashed up and then on the other side of the road is a bus that's gone right into the verge just before a person's property," she said.

She added the bus is wedged in a "precarious" position between a hedge and a lamppost.
