A hill walker who spent the night on Kinder Scout was rescued after being caught out by bad weather.

The Glossop Mountain Rescue Team was alerted by the man at 10:00 GMT on Tuesday after he woke to snow and high winds and got into difficulty trying to leave the area.

Members of both the Glossop and Kinder rescue teams were deployed and the man was found cold and wet, but unharmed, and was escorted down via the Ashop Valley.

A spokesperson for the rescue team said even experienced walkers sometimes needed help if the situation turned against them.

Rescuers emphasised the need to be prepared for bad weather and to call for help if needed

They added: "It's great to see people out enjoying the hills, but it's vital to be aware of your own capabilities and of the weather forecast.

"Even if you are confident of your ability, knowing what to do when events turn against you is equally as important, just as this walker did."
