Teenagers jailed for 'horrific' machete attack
Cleveland PoliceFour young men who stabbed a teenage boy 16 times with a machete and left him fighting for his life have been jailed.
Tyler Bradley, Wayne Boyd, Leon Keenan and Kaya Azhar chased the boy through Hemlington in Middlesbrough during the early hours of 30 April 2025.
CCTV footage showed the boy jumped over garden fences and balconies as he desperately tried to get away.
Judge Francis Laird told Teesside Crown Court it was "a truly horrific and brutal attack on a defenceless boy and he was fortunate to escape with his life".
Despite suffering significant injuries, the 17-year-old managed to drag himself over a fence and on to Hemlington Hall Road, where residents heard his screams.
They shouted at his attackers to stop and provided medical help before the emergency services arrived.
Detectives said their "quick actions" gave the victim the best chance of survival, although he is still recovering from his injuries.
Cleveland PoliceTyler Bradley, 18, of Dallas Court in Middlesbrough, was sentenced to 14 years' imprisonment, while 19-year-old Wayne Boyd, of Enderby Gardens, was sentenced to 13 years.
Both were found guilty of attempted murder after a trial last December.
Leon Keenan, 18, of Arrandale in Middlesbrough was handed a prison sentence of four years and four months and 18-year-old Kaya Azhar, of Scanbeck Drive in Marske, was given four years in jail.
Both were found guilty of grievous bodily harm.

Det Sgt Andy Hamilton said: "These men had one thing on their minds when they hunted down and pursued the 17-year-old boy, and that was to use such force and violence that would inflict horrific injuries upon him.
"Immediately after their attack they fled the area, leaving him in the street fighting for his life.''
