The family of a man, who died after being involved in a crash, has thanked those who rushed to his aid.

Alan Hydes, 68, from the Hotwells area of Bristol was out cycling when he was involved in a crash with a car in North Street, Bedminster, at around 12:30 GMT on 11 January. He died at the scene.

In a statement his family said they feel "comforted by the enormous outpouring of grief and condolences, especially from the local cycling community".

Two men have been arrested and released on conditional bail while investigations continue, Avon and Somerset Police said.

"We would like to express deep thanks to Avon and Somerset Police and all other emergency services in Bristol involved in attending this tragic collision," his family said.

"We would also like to express our gratitude to those members of the public who came to his aid to give help and comfort on that day.

"We are comforted by the enormous outpouring of grief and condolences, especially from the local cycling community, as cycling was one of Alan's favourite and lifelong passions."

The force has made an appeal for any witnesses to come forward and for anyone with doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage to get in contact.
