Damage to the area around a newly opened skate park is "unacceptable", a council has said.

South Kesteven District Council said the turf in Wyndham Park, Grantham, had been "torn and rutted" by motorcyclists.

The skate park officially opened earlier this month after 12-year-old local boy Zak worked with local councillor Tim Harrison to get it up and running.

The council said the vandalism "undermined efforts to improve facilities for young people in the town".

Grantham skate park was officially opened on 5 February

It comes after the council said earlier this month that it would spend £250,000 on replacing swings, springs, seesaws and climbers in the town.

The skate park is still open, the council said, with the damage confined to the grassed area around it.

Deputy leader councillor Paul Stokes said: "Any form of vandalism is disheartening and unacceptable.

"We are proud of our parks and the work that our staff and volunteers put into looking after them.

"We will not let the selfish behaviour of a tiny minority deter us from maintaining them to the highest standards."
