Boy's skatepark wish comes true after online appeal

A 12-year-old boy has been granted his wish after a local authority agreed to spend £125,000 on a skatepark.

South Kesteven District Council said it would be installed at Grantham's Wyndham Park by the end of January and would be suitable for skateboarding, roller skating, BMX and scooting for all ages.

The news comes after the youngster, Zak, messaged his councillor, Tim Harrison, via social media and said there was "nothing to do around town".

"A skatepark would be perfect," he said.

The facility is being paid for with money from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Harrison said: "It was a specific process as any money awarded from the fund has to be accounted for and shown to benefit a wide section of the community.

"Zak did well to take this on. He provided the idea, gave a presentation at school [and] helped with a survey on Facebook, all of which was helpful for the funding bid.

"It goes to show that if you have a good idea, one of the best things you can do is contact your ward member on the district council or the town council to see what your options are."
