Record 9-0 win for Inverness Caley Thistle in Challenge Cup
SNSInverness Caledonian Thistle hammered Dumbarton 9-0 away in the Challenge Cup last night setting a new record victory for the club.
Striker Alfie Bavidge, on loan from Aberdeen, scored four times in a whirlwind first half leaving the Highlanders seven goals up at the interval.
Veteran goal scorer Billy McKay got a brace with Calum MacLeod, Luis Longstaff and Ross Millen also on the score sheet.
Caley Thistle's previous record win was an 8-1 against Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup in January 1998.
Inverness and Dumbarton have previously met in the final of the Challenge Cup with Caley Thistle clinching the trophy in 2018.
The two clubs have had recent financial problems with both of them temporarily going into administration in autumn 2024.
Since then they have had contrasting fortunes with Caley Thistle now top of League One while Dumbarton, following relegation, is in eighth place in league Two.
The nine goals for Caley Thistle in the Challenge Cup follow a 4 - 0 win against Hamilton at the weekend.
