A murder investigation has been launched into the death of a man hit by a car at a petrol station.

Durham Police was called to a disturbance on Stockton Road in Seaham at about 16:50 GMT on Thursday.

A man in his 20s was found with serious injuries at the New Seaham Service Station forecourt and died at the scene.

The force said it had arrested three people in connection with the man's death. The section of the B1285 between the Mallard pub and the petrol station was closed while officers gathered evidence.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
