Attempted murder arrests as man hit by car

Durham Police closed Carr Lane in Spennymoor following the crash

Two men in their twenties have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was hit by a car and seriously hurt.

It happened on Carr Lane in Spennymoor shortly after 01:00 GMT on Thursday.

Durham Police said the car left the scene and a 44-year-old man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with critical injuries.

The two men, aged 23 and 24, remain in police custody and part of Carr Lane was closed for investigations to continue.

Officers appealed for anyone with information or footage of the vehicle to come forward.
