Weather Watcher benjisnapper
Stephen CatterallThe first snow of the season has cloaked the Cumbrian fells.
An area of rain, sleet and snow moved across the UK overnight into Wednesday morning, with an amber warning being issued for Thursday for northern England.
Stephen Catterall said it was a "snow day for lucky hikers", while Rob Knowles, who lives near Penrith, said it was a "gorgeous-looking day but cold in the wind".
Darren Strickland hiked up Helvellyn earlier and captured the picturesque view over the southern and western fells.
Later, the most snow is expected to be seen on higher ground in Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
