A new exhibition exploring love, cultural memory and belonging has opened in Margate.

Artist Geoffrey Chambers is presenting Love Is the Answer at the Pie Factory gallery, bringing together paintings, sculpture, film and performance in a 10-day show.

The works draw on themes of migration and identity, shaped partly by workshops he ran last year.

Chambers, who was born in London of Caribbean heritage and now is based in the Kent seaside town, said: "Love is one of the most powerful tools we have for repair, for imagination, and for returning to ourselves."

The artist said his work honoured the communities and cultures that have shaped his journey.

"The lore and the myths that you carry with you, that you have built within you from being a child are often the places where you are strongest and most able to confront the things that are happening in your world," he said.

Tours of the exhibition and life drawing sessions are taking place this weekend and next weekend, and a question and answer session is being held on Thursday.

Love Is the Answer is running at the gallery in Broad Street until 2 March.
