Man due in court charged with man's murder

A man has been charged with murder following the death of another man in his 50s.

Northumbria Police said it received a report at about 07:15 GMT on Tuesday of a serious assault at a property in Hastings Street, in the Hendon area of Sunderland.

Paramedics found Peter Graham with serious injuries and he later died at the scene.

Gary Howe, 32, of Hastings Street, has been charged with murder, sexual assault by touching and assaulting an emergency worker. He is due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on 24 February.

Det Ch Insp Graeme Barr said: "The last three days have been incredibly difficult for Peter's family, and we will continue to support them in any we can as they attempt to come to terms with their devastating loss."
