Teenager admits killing woman in motorbike crash

A teenage electric motorbike rider has admitted killing an 86-year-old woman in a crash.

Gloria Stephenson, from Silksworth, Sunderland, died after being struck while using a zebra crossing on the city's Burdon Road on 16 May 2025.

Billy Stokoe, who was 18 at the and time and is now 19, of no fixed abode, admitted causing death by dangerous driving while using an unregistered electronic motorcycle and will be sentenced on 15 May.

Ms Stephenson's family previously said she had "years left to give her love and share her energy and zest for life with everyone who knew her".

Stokoe was released on bail and given an interim driving disqualification.
