Patients at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry can use tap water again following a water supply incident that impacted the site for several days last week.

A burst pipe on the Glenshane Road affected the hospital's water supply, with NI Water completing repairs on Tuesday.

"Precautionary" measures were put in place until Friday, with patients telling BBC News NI they were unable to use water from the mains for drinking and were being given bottled water instead.

The Western Trust confirmed that final checks were completed on Friday afternoon and all precautionary measures had been lifted.

Wellbeing of patients 'key focus'

In a statement on Monday morning, the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) confirmed that the issue had been resolved and "all areas have since returned to normal practices".

"The trust kept the health and wellbeing of our patients, staff and service users as the key focus and our highest priority at all times," a spokesperson said.

"We value and acknowledge the support of our colleagues in NI Water, the Public Health Agency and Derry City and Strabane District Council during the management of this incident."
