Four men have been arrested after a man died following an attack in Liverpool.

The 54-year-old suffered head and rib injuries when he and a 53-year-old man were attacked by a group of people following a disagreement on Oakfield Road, Anfield, at about 01:30 GMT on 1 February, Merseyside Police said.

Both men refused medical attention at the scene and the 54-year-old died two days later, after returning to Scarborough in North Yorkshire.

Two men from Croxteth aged 28 and 20, a 47-year-old man from Clubmoor and a 24-year-old man from Old Swan were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent. They have been released on bail and enquiries continue, police said.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place to establish the cause of the man's death.
