Police unable to confirm if man approached pupil
Google MapsPolice have concluded their investigation into a report an unknown man approached a pupil at a Jersey school and tried to get the child to leave with him - but "cannot confirm or rule out" the incident.
Parents of pupils at Grouville School were warned about the "very concerning incident" in which a man was believed to have approached a Year 6 pupil on 2 February and told them "I know your mum and I've come to pick you up".
This led to increased patrols and other efforts to reassure parents, pupils and staff.
Jersey Police said all inquiries had been completed, adding: "There is nothing at this stage to suggest any ongoing risk, however, as an island community we can't be complacent."
Officers had described the man as white, in his 40s, about 5ft 9in (1.8m), bald and clean shaven. They also said he had been wearing a black beanie hat, a knee-length navy or black winter coat and tight fluorescent jogging leggings.
The incident led to warnings about stranger danger, and extra patrols from local police officers, as well as meetings between the parish and the school's leadership.
A Jersey Police spokesperson said its officers had "now completed all available inquiries into the report relating to Grouville".
"We have not been able to confirm or rule out the incident."
They added: "This event serves as a reminder to islanders, particularly parents and carers, to continue reminding children not to engage with strangers and to seek help from a trusted adult if they ever feel unsafe.
"We continue to ask islanders to report anything that seems suspicious or doesn't feel right."
