More than a dozen jobs are at risk at a private school in Aberdeen.

Albyn School - which has about 600 pupils - said the independent school sector was facing a "rapidly changing educational and financial environment".

There are currently about 175 staff employed at Albyn.

The school said that up to 9% of its posts may be affected, and a consultation is under way.

Albyn said that despite a "strong" roll of pupils, it must be "prudent" and recognise the strong likelihood of lower demand.

The school is entering two statutory consultations with teaching and support staff: one to consider potential redundancies, the other to review the teaching pension scheme.

School head David Starbuck said: "Following careful consideration, the board has approved a proposed realignment of the school's staffing levels and costs to match anticipated pupil numbers.

"Acting now enables us to make thoughtful, proportionate adjustments that protect the school's long-term future."
