Plans for new apartments in Sunderland city centre have been given the go-ahead.

Sunderland City Council approved an application to create four apartments on the upper two floors of a mixed-use building on St Thomas Street in the Sunniside conservation area.

The council's conservation team found no objection to the residential conversion as external changes would be "well concealed" and "would have no impact on the character or appearance of the conservation area".

The plan also included new bike lockers and boxes for bats and birds.
