A gorgeous start to the day in sunny Redcar

Spring has officially sprung and not just in the technical sense.

The spring equinox happened in the northern hemisphere at 14:45 GMT on 20 March, marking the start of warmer days and longer evenings.

Bright sunshine graced the North East and Cumbria skies for parts of this week, a stark difference to the recent cold snap.

The BBC Weather Watchers photographers have been out in force to record our changing skies and blossoming fields. Here are some of our favourites.
