Deputies from islands discuss sea and air links
States of GuernseyA "productive" series of meetings have focused on sea and air links in the Channel Islands, deputies have said.
President of the States of Guernsey's Committee for Economic Development, Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller, and Vice President, Deputy Andrew Niles, invited Jersey Deputy Kirsten Morel, Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, to the island on 13 February.
The States of Guernsey said the discussions focused on how the two islands could work together to achieve the best outcomes for islanders in both communities.
Kazantseva-Miller said the size of the islands and the diversity of operators and community needs meant it was a "complex landscape" to navigate.
She said: "I would like to thank Deputy Morel for travelling to Guernsey for a reciprocal meeting to continue discussions around ways we can improve inter-island connectivity, trade and relations between the two Bailiwicks.
"Connectivity is central to our economic prosperity as well as social, sporting, and cultural interactions."
Morel said: "We began discussing areas of mutual interest when Deputy Kazantseva-Miller visited Jersey a few weeks ago, and today was productive in developing those discussions with the objective of benefiting islanders and businesses in both Bailiwicks.
"I am grateful to Deputy Kazantseva-Miller for hosting such a productive series of meetings."
Kazantseva-Miller said since the the 2025 election, its priority was to engage with Jersey in a "pragmatic and solutions-driven manner" which was the focus of their meetings.
