There are plans to redevelop the former EDF offices in Barnett Way in Barnwood

A former EDF site in Gloucester could be turned into 300 homes, new offices, industrial units and warehouses.

The energy company is looking to turn its former offices at Barnett Way in Barnwood into homes and business use.

The firm relocated to Gloucester Business Park in 2022 and they have now asked Gloucester City Council for a screening opinion to determine whether the development would need an environmental statement.

The plans are being refined, but are expected to include demolition, site works, new roadways, sustainable urban drainage systems and up to 300 homes.

The proposals would also include public open space, play areas, leisure facilities and ecological mitigation areas, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

"We have engaged constructively with the city council since the decision to relocate to Gloucester Business Park was taken," EDF's consultants say in planning documents.

"The City Council's conclusion within the pre-application advice received, including the response of May 25, 2025, is that the 'application would bring an underused area of the city back into use, providing much needed housing for Gloucester.

"Due to its location, a mix of residential and employment, commercial uses is appropriate for the site."

The company said engagement with the local community will take place and their views will be considered ahead of the outline plans being finalised and submitted to the council.
