Witnesses sought over crash which killed boy, 7
BBCOfficers are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a seven-year-old boy died in a crash on the A38 in Staffordshire.
Police were called to the scene on the A38 at Swinfen, near Lichfield, at about 05:00 GMT on Saturday. The boy was hit by a blue Vauxhall Mokka.
Staffordshire Police said the boy was from the local area and died at the scene following the collision on the northbound carriageway.
"The circumstances of the incident are being investigated and specialist officers are supporting the family at this difficult time," said a police spokesperson.
Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses to the crash, or anyone who may have seen the boy or Vauxhall beforehand.
Sgt Chris Sweetmore said they were keen to hear from witnesses who saw anyone on either side of the A38 at Swinfen at about 05:00 GMT.
"This incident is devastating for everyone involved and we continue to investigate the circumstances," said the officer.
Sweetmore added speculation about what may have occurred was "not helpful" and asked people to refrain from commenting on social media.
