A seven-year-old boy has been killed following a collision on the A38 in Staffordshire, police say.

The incident happened at 05:00 GMT in Lichfield at the A5206 junction and involved just one car.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said the child died at the scene and the family was now being supported by specially-trained officers.

The A38 was closed in both directions between the A5148 and A5 junctions but has since reopened. Anyone who witnessed the incident was asked to contact the force.
