Lichfield District Council confirmed a number of grants for community projects

A number of community projects in Staffordshire have received a share of £1.47m of funding.

Lichfield District Council announced grants for initiatives across its area, funded by contributions made by developers building new housing.

The projects include improved sports facilities, play areas, community spaces and cultural venues, the authority said.

Councillor Richard Cox said he was "delighted" to see the number of groups receiving "a significant amount of money."

"I think it sends a clear message that there is a lot out there in terms of sports groups and so forth that are really doing an absolutely sterling amount of work with our young people," he added.

The projects getting a share of the money are:

  • Streethay Parish Council's community centre - £500,000
  • Chasetown Football Club's Changing Room project - £200,000
  • Burntwood Rugby Club's pitch enhancement and maintenance - £105,000
  • Fazeley Town Council's play area at Victory Terrace - £99,454
  • Burntwood Dragons and Phoenix Football Club's new cafe area and toilets - £80,000
  • South Staffordshire College's delivery of the Lichfield College Art Gallery - £75,000
  • Lichfield Hockey Club's pitch resurfacing - £60,000
  • Lichfield Sports Club and Vale View Crown Green Bowling Club's new bowling green - £36,000
  • Elford Boys Football Club's car park - £14,5000
  • Wiggington and Hopwas Parish Council's defibrillator project - £3,000
  • Kings Bromley Bowling Club's path renewal and green reboarding - £2,580

An additional £300,000 has been approved in principle for a new pump track at Chasewater Country Park, subject to final confirmation of location and land ownership.
