Man arrested after cyclist injured in crash

A 60-year-old man has been arrested after a cyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a car in Leicester.

Police said the collision happened in Downing Drive, Evington, at about 20:00 BST on Saturday, and involved a grey Renault Megane.

The cyclist was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he remains in a serious condition.

The man arrested in connection with the crash has been released pending further inquiries, Leicestershire Police said.

Officers investigating the collision say they would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed it or who has dashcam footage.

The Stoneygate seat is vacant following the death of Labour councillor Manjula Sood.

Leicester City Council says the project is part of a £5m scheme to improve two city estates.

Belgrave Road in Leicester was closed in both directions after the pedestrian, in his 70s, was struck.

The issue is set to be debated by councillors at a city council meeting on Wednesday.

Police have closed Belgrave Road, at the junction with Cossington Street, following the crash.
