New fences have been placed along a seaside promenade to stop people walking along it after a large void was discovered underneath.

North Norfolk District Council said following further investigations to Sheringham Promenade, it discovered the void was large enough to "accommodate a Transit van".

It appealed to members of the public to stay away, saying it was a "potentially dangerous area, which could pose a risk of injury to anyone ignoring the barriers".

A council spokesperson said it would continue to assess the situation and plan how to carry out repairs.

They said: "The barriers are there to prevent potential injury, but in recent weeks they have been moved or ignored.

"That's why today we are erecting more substantial fences around the affected areas."

"Work is continuing to develop an action plan to repair the damage to the promenade caused by water undermining the structure."

They said it aimed to re-open the area as soon as remedial works were completed.

On Thursday, a large sinkhole opened up on Hunstanton Promenade, which was also fenced off ahead of emergency repair work.
