Drivers are being asked not to remove warning barriers after two sinkholes appeared in a coastal town.

Suffolk Highways said the holes appeared in Seaton Road and Colneis Road in Felixstowe and repairs would be prioritised.

It is advising motorists to heed road closures after it emerged barriers had been moved in Colneis Road for access.

"This is dangerous as the underground cavity may be much larger than the surface hole appears," the authority said.

"The barrier is there for a reason, we strongly advise against people removing it," Suffolk Highways said.

The cause of the Seaton Road hole is still being investigated and there is no date for it to be reopened.

The sinkhole in Colneis Road is related to a sewer issue and has been referred to Anglian Water, Suffolk Highways said.

"At this stage we are still investigating the cause so we have commissioned repair works to reopen the road as soon as possible," it added.

"Given the inconvenience residents are experiencing the repairs are being prioritised."
