A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman whose body was discovered at a flat on Merseyside last month.

George Christopher Gordon, 65, is accused of murdering 64-year-old Delia McInerney of Anfield, Liverpool, on or before 12 April 2023.

Her body was found in Gerards Court on Hawes Avenue in Clinkham Wood, St Helens, on 8 January.

Gordon, of Clinkham Wood, St Helens, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court and the case has been referred to Liverpool Crown Court where he is due to appear on Wednesday.

Gordon has also been charged with three counts of fraud by false representation contrary to Section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006 and theft.

The CPS had previously authorised two charges against Gordon including the prevention of a lawful and decent burial of a body and obstructing the coroner in the execution of their duty.

He is also due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday for a plea-and-trial preparation hearing on those charges.
