Light show marks cathedral's 950th anniversary

A Sussex cathedral will be lit up as part of celebrations to mark its 950th anniversary.

Work began on Chichester Cathedral in 1075, with events taking place throughout 2025 including services and pilgrimage walks across the county.

Until November it is hosting an exhibition about the history of Christianity in Sussex.

From Friday the interior of the building will be illuminated with a light show featuring 30,000 images from the cathedral archives.

The cathedral's foundation was overseen by its first Norman bishop Stigand, although its spire, cloisters and detached bell tower date from the 1400s.

Previously the seat of the local bishop had been at Selsey, the site of a monastery which had become Sussex's first cathedral.

The light show will run until 31 October.
