Chichester now has its very own Monopoly board game

A Monopoly board game dedicated to Chichester has been officially unveiled.

The game features the West Sussex city's landmarks including Chichester Cathedral and the Festival Theatre, as well as nearby seaside locations such as the Witterings.

Chichester won a competition against other cathedral cities, and the board game started being developed in June last year.

"We always look for spaces that have a large amount of civic pride, the community in Chichester have really got involved and have been up for the project," said John Keen-Tomlinson, partnership manager of Winning Moves UK, which is producing the game for Hasbro.

He added: "Chichester has so much to offer in terms of historic locations, the Festival Theatre, cathedral and also the seaside too."

More than 30 Chichester landmarks and organisations feature on the board, including the City Walls, Market Cross, the University of Chichester and Bishop's Palace Gardens.

The four train stations from the original classic London Monopoly have been changed too. They now include Chichester Harbour's Itchenor Ferry, as well as Chichester train station.

Other twists in this edition see the chance and community chest cards customised, with one of the bespoke cards docking players Monopoly money for repairs "During Low Tide" at Chichester Harbour.

Another card rewards players for being elected Mayor of Chichester.

Mayor Sean McHale said: "I think it's wonderful, those of us who live in Chichester know how good it is. People outside of Chichester can see our wonderful landmarks and charities.

"I love Priory Park and Bishop's Palace Garden, I think the board is very well balanced. They've given a space for three wonderful charities here."
