A man has been found to have caused the death of his father in Doncaster and given an indefinite hospital order.

John Hinchcliffe, 63, was fatally injured in a property on Maple Grove in Conisbrough on 16 January 2025. A post-mortem examination later found the cause of death to be stab wounds.

Korey Ewen, 23, had been charged with murder following the death of his father but was found unfit to plead.

A trial of fact was held at Sheffield Crown Court with the jury finding Ewen had caused his father's death.

In a statement, the victim's family said they were "utterly heartbroken" at his death.

"John was a son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend to many," they said.

"We are pleased with the outcome at court, though it does not change the grief we are continuing to endure."

Det Ch Insp Ben Wood said: "Our officers have supported John's family members since the investigation launched.

"We hope the court proceedings have given them answers and an outcome as they continue to process their heartbreaking loss."
