Designers have been commissioned to look at how Fort William's bus station could be improved, including potential options for its relocation.

Local bus services and long-distance coaches could operate from a single hub.

The proposal forms part of Fort William 2040, a project led by the local authority.

A Highland Council report said locals had a number of concerns about the current MacFarlane Way site including a lack of toilets, poor shelter during bad weather and the safety of an underpass for pedestrians.

The report to next week's Lochaber committee said ASL had carried out some early work, including a site visit and initial discussions with bus operators.

Last year, Highland councillors were told the bus station could be moved to nearby Nevis Terrace to give buses easier access to the A82 trunk road.

Fort William 2040 is a long-term plan to revamp parts of the town and make it easier to travel in and around the community.
