Derren Goddard is due to be sentenced in September

A man who was due to go on trial over the death of a pensioner struck by a car while sitting on a bench has changed his plea to guilty.

Keith Turnidge, aged 76, died in hospital in August 2023, almost two months after he was hit by a Mini Cooper in Bridge Street, Weedon Bec in Northamptonshire.

Derren Goddard, 51, had appeared in court in February and denied causing death by driving without due care and attention while over the legal limit for alcohol.

He admitted the charge at Northampton Crown Court on Tuesday and is due to be sentenced in September.

Goddard, of Harmans Way, Weedon, was issued with an interim driving disqualification by the judge.
