First responders to get new car after £17k gift
WMASA group of volunteer first responders can buy a new car after receiving a £17,389 donation from fundraisers.
Members of The Inflatables completed a 16km (10 mile) run wearing inflatable Christmas outfits last month, and also held a raffle to support Burntwood and Cannock Community First Responders (CFSs) in Staffordshire.
The volunteers are dispatched to 999 calls to provide immediate treatment until an ambulance arrives and are trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service.
Dan Garrity from The Inflatables said: "We wanted to support the incredible work they do and help ensure they have the equipment, training, and resources they need to keep our community safe."
"Their enthusiasm and community spirit is truly infectious," said Andy McCrum, a community responder from the area, who thanked all involved, adding special thanks to Garrity, Scott Murcott, Jordan Anderson and Craig Wilson.
The run took place on 7 December, with fundraising continuing afterwards.
The group said it presented the cheque after receiving some "last-minute donations".
WMASGarrity said: "We ran 16 kilometres for something that truly matters to us.
"Every step was for them, and every donation will help them continue saving lives when it matters most."
He said his group all bought their own inflatable costumes and it was the fourth time they had taken part in the Christmas run.
Staffordshire Birdseye PhotographyGarrity said there had been a good reaction from people they saw on the route too.
"Everyone seems to love what we do, we think it helps kickstart Christmas in our local area," he said.
He hopes to expand to other areas this year.
