Seal pup rescued on New Year's Eve
GSPCAAn animal charity in Guernsey said it ended 2025 with the rescue of its third seal pup in December.
The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) said two pups were rescued earlier in December which were named Frosty and Blizzard.
Geoff George, head of marine mammals at GSPCA, said: "New Years Eve we had another call for a third pup rescue who looked poorly and half the weight it should be with no mother in site."
He added the six week old male seal, which they named Glacier, was found at Fairy Ring Pleinmont and was 19kgs (41.88lb), was "very dehydrated with a chest infection", and would need "some months of care and likely antibiotics."
GSPCASteve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said: "What a way to end 2025 as we rescue our third seal pup in less than two weeks."
He added all the pups were in a "temporary seal pup area we have made while our new wildlife hospital continues to be built."
In December the charity said it had raised almost half of its £3.7m target for a new wildlife hospital.
He said: "We are at the start of the seal pup season and with the stormy weather this time of year we have no doubt there will be others needing our help and if you do see a seal in trouble please call us."
He added in the last 14 years the charity had managed to rescue and release 45 seals back into local waters.
