Formal plans lodged for town centre revamp
Newark and Sherwood District CouncilPlans to regenerate Ollerton town centre have taken a step forward after a formal application was submitted.
The proposed development includes a three-screen cinema, cafe, public sector hub and housing.
Newark and Sherwood District Council said the application was submitted following three rounds of public engagement on the plans.
Claire Penny, portfolio holder for sustainable economic development, described it as a "landmark moment for Ollerton".
'Heart of our community'
She added: "The submission of planning permission marks the beginning of a new chapter for the town, one that reflects the aspirations of our community and the feedback we've received throughout our consultations.
"We're excited to see this vision come to life."
Karen Wakefield, clerk of Ollerton and Boughton Town Council, said: "This project represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape the heart of our community, creating a town centre that is vibrant, accessible, and reflective of local heritage."
Plans to transform the town centre using £20m of levelling up funding were first revealed in December 2023.
The authority hopes the application for the scheme will be considered by its planning committee early next year, with construction expected to begin later in the summer and completion targeted for 2028.
