Two arrests as police 'stop attempted fuel theft'
Nottinghamshire PoliceTwo people have been arrested after officers in Nottinghamshire foiled a fuel theft attempt.
Nottinghamshire Police said they were called to High Street in Laxton, near Ollerton, at about 21:10 GMT on Monday after witnesses reported seeing two people "carrying fuel cans over to a large tank full of kerosene".
A pair of suspects were spotted and detained near to the scene, and when the oil tank was located officers found about 100 litres had been pumped out into a series of containers.
Two men, aged 31 and 61, were arrested on suspicion of theft, with the 31-year-old also arrested for possessing Class A drugs.
"The officers involved in this discovery deserve great credit for their rapid response to this incident," said Insp Gina Boothby, of Nottinghamshire Police.
"These types of thefts can be keenly felt among rural communities, especially in the current climate, with the cost of fuel continuing to rise."
